1. WELCOME

This isn’t really a blog. It’s a site containing all the transportation information I’ve gained while living in and travelling around Belize. I try to keep the information up to date (disregard the dates under the titles).

Schedules and fares can change at any time; always confirm times before travel.

U.S. dollars are widely accepted at an exchange rate of US$1 = BZ$2.

The photo above is the bus terminal in Corozal.

Can anyone provide me with the number of the Corozal bus terminal. I forgot something in one of the bus and i really need to get it. They can leave it there and bring in the orange walk bus terminal. I would really appreciate it.

What about Holidays? Buses work on regular schedule?

    • belizebus Says:

Buses run on holidays. I don’t know for certain about a regular schedule, but last Easter, they seemed to go by on a regular schedule.

Any update on the closed border situation?

    • belizebus Says:

So far, no announcements of the border reopening. With the number of confirmed cases in Mexico rapidly rising over the next few weeks, I can’t see the northern border opening anytime soon.

The original State of Emergency Proclamation will expire on April 30th, 2020, and some restrictions will be relaxed. The Prime Minister has stated that an extension of the State of Emergency is needed, but that can only be done by way of a Resolution of the National Assembly, and that will happen next Monday & Tuesday. There should be further news then.

Thank you for your reply, could you maybe keep me posted on this matter (kinda need to renew my visa) and already got my ticket long before this epidemic so hoping i can cross the border.

When the border reopens, I’ll probably post a media report in the Updates section of this site, but you should really be keeping an eye on the Belize media websites yourself. Here’s the website where you’ll find links the media resources: http://belizenews.com

The 2 TV channels (Channel 5 & Channel 7) post the text of their Monday through Friday evening news broadcasts a few hours after the broadcast. Another good resource is LoveFM News.

It sounds like you’re in Mexico, and you want to go to Belize so you can return to Mexico to get a new FMM (because you don’t need to leave Belize to get an extension for the Belize tourist stamp)? Currently, there have been reports of Mexican Immigration giving FMM extensions/renewals to visitors who can’t or don’t want to travel. Go to your nearest Immigration office for information.

What is the last bus that leaves from belize to corozal on a Saturday?

    • belizebus Says:

      Hi Helen,

      It’s a little confusing.

There’s a Regular schedule that shows the last bus leaving Belize City at 7:30 pm.

Then there’s a schedule labelled as either a Covid schedule or a holiday schedule, and that one shows the last bus at 4pm, but a Workers bus at 5pm.

      Here’s the website with schedules…

Hi! Thanks so much for all the info on this site! I basically want to know if it’s possible to walk across from Santa Elena into the “free zone” shopping area to renew my Mexican FMM, spend a couple of hours and walk back. I’d be really grateful if you had more info about this – thanks!

    Fred

    • belizebus Says:

      Hola,
Most people actually go through Belize Immigration first, and then return to Mexico after at least 1 day/night. I don’t know of anyone who has simply gone to the Free Zone and returned. Let us know how it goes.

Be aware that Immigration has been getting more strict with people doing this, and some people have received only 7 days on their new FMM.

Hi! I’m planning our vacations around Belize, thanks for all of the bus info on your page 🙂

I have a few more questions
-To visit Belize zoo for Belize city I have to take a westbound REGULAR bus with destination BENQUE or BELMOPAN. Is this correct?
-Then from the Zoo to get to San Ignacio is the same bus with destination BENQUE, it will stop at Belmopan but I remain in the bus because eventually it will reach San Ignacio?
-How do I get from San Ignacio to Placencia?
    -Also Placencia- Belize city?
-From orange Walk to Belize city is there a express bus?

I’d be very great full if you could help me with this

    Thanks

      Q. To visit Belize zoo for Belize city I have to take a westbound REGULAR bus with destination BENQUE or BELMOPAN. Is this correct?

      A. Yes, but you have to tell the driver/conductor to stop at the zoo (it’s not a scheduled stop).

      Q. Then from the Zoo to get to San Ignacio is the same bus with destination BENQUE, it will stop at Belmopan but I remain in the bus because eventually it will reach San Ignacio?

      A. Correct. At the zoo entrance, you have to stand on the side of the highway and wave at an approaching bus to get it to stop.

      Q. How do I get from San Ignacio to Placencia?

      A. At San Ignacio, get a bus with destination BELIZE CITY. It will make a stop at Belmopan where you have to get off the bus and change to a bus to Placencia.

      Q. I haven’t checked the schedule, but there should be a bus from Placencia to BC. If not, you can get the small ferry to Independence where you can get the James Bus to BC.

      Q. From orange Walk to Belize city is there a express bus?

      A. I haven’t checked the schedule, but if there is an express, it will be denoted on the schedule.

    Hi,

Last minute we had to reschedule our whole Belize trip and instead of landing at Belize City it is now Cancun. So, now we are trying to get a bus to Belize.

When chatting with the ADO on Facebook they mentioned that they don’t have direct busrides between Cancun and Belize city. In that case the only option is to go to Chetumal, take a cab to the border and arrange a ride to Corozal. From there we could take a bus to Belize city. It is hard to find good up-to-date information about this route.

Could you confirm that this is the best option or are there alternatives by bus?

    Thanks in advance.

    • belizebus Says:

The ADO route to Belize stopped when the border closed in 2020, and since the border reopening, ADO has not yet resumed service to BC. No other buses are crossing the border yet.

The water taxi service from Chetumal to San Pedro (also suspended during the border closure) could resume in late April.

Your plan will work. I’ve taken a taxi from Chetumal to the border for 80 pesos, but that was a few years ago — I’ve heard fares are closer to 200 to 300 pesos now. Once over the border, you can get a Belize taxi from the Belize Immigration building to Corozal, then bus. Taxi fare to Corozal was BZ$20 in pre-pandemic days, but now they charge BZ$50.

If your final destination is San Pedro, you can get the daily water taxi from Corozal to SP, but it leaves Corozal daily at 7am, so you would have to stay a night at Corozal.

Another option… arrange with one of the Corozal based transfer services to pick you up in Chetumal and take you directly to the Corozal bus terminal — they used to charge US$50 for that. Both services are in my list.

Hi and thank you for the provided information it’s really helpful in planing our trip in Belize. Are the busses passing near the airport in direction to Belize city bus terminal running on Sunday? From the bus schedule we found 2 companies (Heylock and Ramos bus service) running every 15 minutes but it doesn’t state which days.
    Many thanks
